ROAD WARRIORS:  Travels with Mr. Shmooze:  This week... Madrid!

Article Date: June 26, 2006

Yep. Made it across the big pond last week for some speaking and R & R in Spain.  Europe is in the throws of World Cup fever, so the entire experience was phenomenal.

I stayed at the Wellington Hotel in Madrid.  It's located in the heart of the action, and I was absolutely electrified by the confluence of businesspeople and visitors from all over the world.  The "English Bar" off the lobby is a throwback to days when "The Empire" was the dominant force in the world.  I highly recommend this hotel.

Traveling south to Seville, the experience got even better.  The Alfonse Hotel is a true four-star experience... one of the nicest I have ever encountered.  Plus, it is directly across the street from the old city, where much of the great sightseeing is located--the big cathedral, palace, great narrow streets/shops and, yes, outdoor restaurants and bars where your buddy Mr. Shmooze could kick back and mingle with the international crowd.

Finally, Iberia Airlines, which isn't generally known for its quality service, really came through.  Direct flights, on time, nice aircraft.  Tough to make reservations though... you may need a travel agent to work through the traps.

So, if Spain is on your hot list, I like the country and the people... a lot.  Feel free to e-mail me for more info if you have a trip coming up!
