Turning Your Hobby/Passion Into a Great Sales Tool
Article Date: June 19, 2006
In Chicago, there is a popular real estate broker known to all as "The Commissioner." He runs the local softball league, prints a funny newsletter and, in the process, has become one of the most well-known people in his profession.
In San Francisco, a young investment banker is a University of Georgia football fanatic and decided to start a bulldog club in the Bay area. Pretty soon he had attracted nearly every Georgia alumnus in the city to his parties on game day, and became the unofficial "welcome wagon" for new Georgia graduates when they relocate to northern California.
And in Texas, there is an insurance agent who runs a very sophiscated fantasy baseball league, with friends and clients, funnelling his passion for baseball into his relationship-building at work.
The moral of the story... smart salespeople have combined work and pleasure, channeling the passion of their hobbies into the fabric of their work. It creates a perfect storm in terms of personal branding, emotional connecting and loyalty!
